Looking down into the harbour of La Palais on Belle Ile. The entrance is to the
top right. Today its quiet but at weekends there are no gaps between the boats.

This citadel, designed by Vauban, overlooks the town and port. It's part of the
town fortifications which still almost ring the town. Well worth a visit. Inside
the citadel is a museum dedicated to Vauban.

Without modern rock climbing boots this would surely be unclimbable. I thought the
photo looked a bit artistic as well.

This is the dry moat between the outer wall and the citadel. Again, surely even
the Brits failed to cross this? Vauban did knew how to make defenses.

Looking out of the town through the ornate Northern entrance. The supermarket is
a 2 min walk beyond this point

The prety town of Sauzon at the NW end of the island. We stayed on a buoy one night
but the winds change of direction caused us to move to La Palais the following day.

Sauzon. Out on the buoys was so rolly we didn't come ashore. We've cycled here from
La Palais and had lunch on a park bench just out of shot.

Janet can be seen cycling up one of the hills. At the top we saw a sign warning
cyclist to dismount and walk down. Wimps.

Honest we are not lost, this is a footpath but it was so overgrown we called it
a day and returned by the road.
