A wonderful view of the entrance to the estuary from the palace in Hondarribia. A commanding position.

Janet looks out towards France from atop one of the shear town walls. They are about 15m tall.

The gate house for the last remaining entrance to the town.

detail of the coat of arms.
|
|

Now a magnificent state run 5 star hotel, this palace/fortress shows signs of having withstood cannon fire during
earlier battles with the French.

Hondarribia style moorings. 4 posts rise out of the mud and the boats rise and fall on the tide within them.
Large blocks of wood keep the boats above the mud.

Every balcony and every garden in every house had dozens of geraniums of every colour. They really did look wonderful.
