Central square in La Coruna. On the left is Maria Pitta who helped keep out the pirate Drake. (Sir
Francis)
Its a super walk from the marina thro the sculpture park to
the Tower of Hercules. Here we are walking up to the oldest
Roman lighthouse still operational.
Nigel, Maggie and Janet at the top of the tower, 255 steps
up, but only Janet was keen to look over the edge.
Betanzos was a super old town splendidly preserved. On the coming weekend was a medieval festival. Pity but we did not go.
This is the cake all of us tourists buy, its sold throughout Galicia and must have some deep meaning. For me it was a Bakewell tart
wi'art jam.
So ornate and in such good repair, this is the main entrance
to the cathedral. 2 weeks hence the stairs will be packed solid,
as we would witness.
Santiago de Compostela and my first full mass, and what a location for it. The bones of one of Jesus'
disciples (St James) is buried 25m from my elbow.
Here is the sensor, all 65 Kg, hoisted and swung by 8 burly
monks. Looking at the pulley
system and the acceleration of the sensor, I'd guess they all
support nearly 100Kg.
David's first day at anchor. Here we are on route to the town
centre for coffees and/or ice creams.
This, the first fire in the Ria, was more of an exciting spectacle than a national disaster.
We soon learned we were wrong in our conclusion.
The "air bomber" about to land and fill up with water. They
fly amazingly close to the anchored yachts; sometimes above,
sometimes alongside but always close.
Touchdown, and already the water will be poring into the
hold. They stay on the water for about 200-300m then climb
back over the fire and bomb it.
